Emran’s Piyaju


  • 2 Cups Red Lentil
  • 1 Red Onion Diced
  • 3 Green Chilis Chopped
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 Tsp Keema Masala
  • 1 Tsp Red Chili Flakes
  • 2 Tbsp Coriander Chopped
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 ½ Tsp Salt
  • Oil for Frying


  1. Soak the lentil 30 minutes and rinse thoroughly until water runs clear.
  2. Transfer red lentils pulses to a food processor and make a coarse paste.
  3. Transfer red lentil coarse paste to a bowl.
  4. Add eggs, chopped red onions, chopped green chilis, coriander, turmeric, cumin, keema masala, red chili flakes, salt and mix lightly.  
  5. Place a pan on the stove on medium heat, add oil. When oil is ready, make flat piyaju/fritters using a spoon. Use the back of the spoon to flatten down gently.
  6. Fry the piyaju/fritters until they become golden brown on one side. Fry for 5-10 minutes. Flip them over and fry the opposite side.
  7. Take the piyaju/fritters off the oil and place them on in a bowl lined with paper napkins.
  8. Repeat the process to finish the mix.
  9. Serve piyaju/fritters hot.
  10. Enjoy!
